Understanding The Basics of Underlay Stitching and Pull Compensation In Embroidery Designs!

You, Will, Have Happy Repeat Customers!

Many embroiderers do not use Underlay stitching or Pull Compensation because they have no idea how to use it or what type of Underlay to use for their particular design, stitch type or fabric style.

Instead, they use a heavy density thinking that this will work but this can cause a multitude of problems.

Small lettering will have a different density, and underlay and sometimes even a different pullcomp than the larger letters.

Like anything else that is built, you need a good foundation, and Underlay Stitching is the foundation of your embroidery design.
The type of underlay stitching depends on the size of the design or letter, the fabric and the type of letter or stitch that you are creating.

I am going to explain this is very simple terms so that you can grasp it easily.

  • There are some basic settings that I want you to remember.
  • In some software, such as home embroidery software, you may have combinations that you have to select, but use what I have given you as a basics to choose which setting will work the best in that software.
  • I have created videos for you in the Tajima Pulse Software and the Hatch software.
  • You always need to use Pull Compensation in a design or lettering.
  • You have to be very careful with the small letters that you do not have too much density in them. The threads will pile up and the letters will look rough.

Once you understand the why’s of what underlay to use for each of the basic fabrics and textures of fabrics along with the pullcomp, it makes it so much easier.
